I Labor, Therefore I Am

Western philosophy has long tied existence to thought or production, yet neither framework accounted for the intellectual and creative labor of Black women. I Labor, Therefore I Am examines how recognition, authorship, and creative self-definition challenge inherited definitions of selfhood. Drawing on historical analysis, personal reflection, and Black feminist scholarship, this essay argues that existence is not secured through thinking or working alone, but through the sustained act of creating meaning in a world that has too often refused recognition.
